The Smash Box has access to what is called SOCD, or Simultaneous Opposing Cardinal Directions. Simply put, you can press Left and Right at the same time. In this post, we will overview the many ways Smash Box deals with SOCDs.
For more info on SOCDs and SOCD Resolutions, check out our intro blog post on the subject: Introduction to SOCD and Resolutions.
SOCD Resolutions
Neutral
This is the default option in the Smash Box. Whenever opposition directions are pressed, the center or "neutral" stick position is output.
Examples:
Left + Right = Neutral
Up + Down = Neutral
Second Input Priority
This resolution option will only output the opposing cardinal that you activated most recently.
Examples:
Holding Left -> Left + Right = Right
Holding Down -> Down + Up = Up
Second Input Controlled Priority
Similar to the above, this resolution option will only output the opposing cardinal that you activated most recently, but will deactivate the first cardinal direction you pressed until you release it again and press it again.
Examples:
Holding Left -> Left + Right = Right
Holding Left -> Left + Right -> Left = Neutral
Holding Down -> Down + Up = Up
First Input Priority
Only available for the X-Axis, this resolution option will only output the opposing cardinal that you activated first.
Examples:
Holding Left -> Left + Right = Left
Holding Down -> Down + Up = Down
Up Overrides Down
Only available for the Y-Axis, this resolution option will only output Up in all Up + Down inputs.
Examples:
Holding Down -> Up + Down = Up
Holding Up -> Up + Down = Up
